LIARS

Like generations of women before me
I fell for a man's lies
I've seen it happen time and again
Why was it a surprise?

Now it becomes blatantly clear
It wasn't even his fault
I should've learned, at least by now:
Take every word with a grain of salt

But I got sucked in, as I will again
That's just the way it goes
Until I'm forced to wonder why
Their noses don't look like Pinocchio's!

Monday, November 19, 2007

I fell asleep last night and dreamed about lying in your arms
I dreamed about your lips and eyes
And the softest kisses of my life
I dreamed about your heart, beating against mine
In my dreams I felt so safe in your arms
As if I could never be hurt
…Then I woke up and was alone
Now I wait for tonight
When I’ll see you…in my dreams

Throwing in the Towel

She closes her eyes
To shut out the world
Tears slip from beneath her lids
They travel slowly down her cheeks
And she makes no effort to wipe them away
She throws back her head
And screams, ‘I give up’
She’s giving up on love…
(One too many heartbreaks)
She’s giving up on people…
(Been screwed on too many times)
She’s giving up on caring…
(It’s too damn easy to get hurt)
But, most of all,
She’s giving up on herself…
(No one else gives a damn
So why should she?)

TODAY

Today is the same as any other day
Grown-ups are ducking and children are afraid to play

Bullets are coming
From left and right
Families huddle
Nice and tight
You feel like a prisoner
In your own house
The criminals are cats
And you’re the mouse
As the shooting goes on
You yell and scream
You’re in the middle
Of a nightmare dream
After it ends
Someone is asleep
In an eternal slumber
Six feet deep
Maybe tomorrow
Will be a different day
I hope, I wish
I think, I pray
Abandoned, forgotten, left all alone, crying
Your body’s all right, but inside you’re dying
You’re question is how, how could this be?
The answer is life and its cruelty
It plays with your mind, it makes you insane
You feel nothing and the world is to blame
Pain holds the lock and you hold the key
You’re damned to Hell, that’s your reality
You feel like a rat trapped in a maze
You go through life locked in a daze
Your hopes and dreams no longer exist
You wish someone would end all of this
Your torture, your suffering, your lust for death
You wish you would finally breathe your last breath
Suffer no more, the end is near
The words that you’ve so longed to here
Into the pits of Hell, you’ll be consumed
Now follow the reaper to your doom

The Soldier

He gets up in the morning
Before the sky is light
He puts on the honored uniform
And prepares to go and fight
An M-16 strapped to his back
And a full clip on his belt
The fear in his heart, going to war
Is the worst he's ever felt

He raised his hand and said the words
Swore to protect and obey
With a tear in his eye and pride in his heart
He promised his life that day
He's a soldier

His shoes are polished to a mirror shine
The brass on his uniform gleams
With sharp, flat creases in his clothes
He's the perfect soldier, it seems
In every home he's ever lived
He's seen Old Glory fly
And he always knew those stars and stripes
Would cover him when he died

He raised his hand and said the words
Swore to protect and obey
With a tear in his eye and pride in his heart
He gave his life that day
He was a soldier

Star Cross'd Lovers

I see two stars in summer’s night
Hovering, lost in blinding light
Each so dull in Heaven’s net
So each remains as yet unmet

But fortune moves in strangest ways
It lengthens nights, it shortens days
May this night end and day begin
And bring two lovers back again
